Postural Adjustments T.M.

An exclusive method from the Instituto Coluna Vertebral dedicated to the treatment of postural distortions, for postural correction, pain control and mechanical decompression. The method works by stimulating ligaments, joints and soft tissues, facilitating movement and posture.

Patient Assessment

Patient assessment is carried out through consultations with a comprehensive history and complete postural physical examination. Resources such as segmental x-rays can also be used, as well as panoramic X-rays of the entire spine. Some patients are spirographed to observe structural radiological changes (anisomyelia), and also to analyze distortions in the patients' posture. In some cases, we request more advanced exams to evaluate vertebral deformities.

Exams that can be requested:

  1. Panoramic x-ray

  2. Lower limb econometrics

  3. Baropodometry

  4. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging

Who can do this Postural Adjustments T.M. therapy?

Postural problems can arise in childhood and adolescence, but a very important aspect is when postural problems lead to painful and inflammatory conditions. Small postural corrections can be essential for the treatment of spinal problems, including degenerative joint problems, herniated discs, facet syndromes, among other problems. Painful conditions due to postural distortions are increasingly common in adults and the elderly, especially degenerative scoliosis.

After a comprehensive assessment, any patient can undergo treatment, from children to teenagers to the elderly. Certainly, from an initial consultation, some limitations and indications can be detected and the treatment can be applied to all patients with certain adaptations.

Our Postural Adjustments T.M.

The Spine Institute has developed a unique protocol from more than 20 years of studies and clinical experience. The T. M. Postural Adjustments treatment protocol uses the clinical association of the best of many established methods based on clinical and scientific evidence.

  1. Balance and correction of muscular and postural chains

  2. Structural and biophysical chiropractic

  3. Proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation

  4. Clinical and functional postural re-education

  5. Soft tissue release techniques, reflexive and direct

  6. Corrective Positional Release, Stretchings and Cyriax

  7. Orthorol and Clinical Biomechanics

  8. Orthopedic Manipulative Therapy, including Mackenzie, Maitland Muligan and others.

  9. Clinical Posturology

Can subluxation be a Postural problem?
We easily correlate subluxation as a problem related to the vertebrae or segments of the spine, leading to dysfunction, compromising the optimal function of the nervous system and leading to joint pain and discomfort, especially in the spine.

So postural problems such as Scoliosis, Hyperkyphosis or Hyperlordosis present a set or "package" of dysfunctions in specific segments of the spine leading to a sensory disconnection, which we can call postural subluxations, which are interferences in the functioning of the nervous system.

The Postural Subluxation Model was developed by Dr. Harisson from the United States in the 90's and considered these interferences related to changes in the curvatures of the spine.  But even before Dr. Carver and Dr. Logab were the forerunners of the study of postural distortions, as a cause of vertebral dysfunctions.

These interferences impact the effectiveness of postural movements, the energy expenditure for the action of postural stabilizing muscles, bringing pain, discomfort, weakness and muscle imbalance. Also having repercussions on visceral function and the functioning of the autonomic nervous system.

Thus, it is necessary to perform clinically based on the foundations of the spine and the normalization of the sacral angle. Our postural adjustments approach focuses on pain management, joint decompression, alignment, biomechanical correction, and muscle balance.

Using a combined multimodal and multiprofessional methodology, we associate in our protocol the best methods and techniques of structural corrective chiropractic, with traditional methods of osteopathy, medicine and advanced physiotherapy.
Our protocol was developed by an in-depth study of the main theoretical bases and methodologies that exist today, with the influence of the main historical authorities on postural approaches.

Our methodology includes diagnostic imaging, with specific analysis using x-rays, but also through the use of an in-depth physical examination used to measure and classify the types of dysfunctions in patients.
We consider the kinesiopathology or dysfunction present in postural movements, clarifying the primary and secondary causes of biomechanical and neurofunctional problems.

We developed a treatment plan with specific biomechanical correction at the joint level, considering the curvatures of the spine and their impact on the patient's symptomatology. But always understanding that the morphology of each patient is their own and their shape is related to their function.

Our treatment plan seeks to constantly update techniques and procedures, based on the best available evidence. Our primary approach is based on Structural Chiropractic, but through its principles we relate and integrate it to a well-designed multimodal approach, seeking the clinical evolution of the patient based on the structural cause of the dysfunction, without neglecting the dysfunction or specific subluxation at the level of the vertebral segment.

Certainly, this is the most comprehensive postural treatment protocol today, as it includes international methods of specific correction. In addition, these methods are used, observing the phases of treatment, pain control, decompression, biomechanical correction and approaches that also favor muscle balance.
